Publish Your EBook!
About
Since the invention of the printing press, which has always been an unwieldy machine beyond the practical means of most authors, you either obtained your own press – like Benjamin Franklin, for example, who proudly self-identified as a printer even after he’d gained world renown as an American Revolutionary statesman – or your work had to satisfy an agent, editor or publisher before you could even start to think about communicating with your audience. The system was rigged, and authors like you remained creatively and economically subservient to the publishing industry’s gatekeepers and to someone else’s idea of what your audience should be offered.
Ben Franklin got around the gatekeepers by becoming his own gatekeeper – he owned his own printing press and became the first Postmaster General of the fledgling country he helped to found, which afforded him great deals and exclusive self-service on publishing and distribution. That’s a hard act to follow but the internet gets around this for the modern author. Thanks anyway, Ben!
